The last day of the pre-Qin Dynasty was the third day after the winter solstice, and it was fixed on the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month from the beginning of the Southern and Northern Dynasties.
Laba porridge is also called eight-treasure porridge, which is made by mixing many kinds of materials and cooking it in the same way as ordinary porridge. Ingredients: rice, wheat, corn, red dates, lotus seeds, barley, longan meat, various beans (red beans, mung beans, soybeans, black beans, red beans, etc.). Now, the eight-treasure porridge has become a kind of canned ready-to-eat food, just like ordinary canned fruits and meat, which is very convenient.
This year’s Laba Festival coincides with the last one of the twenty-four solar terms. Every year around January 20th, when the sun reaches 300° of the yellow longitude, it is "Great Cold". Big cold, in ancient times, refers to the coldest day of the year.
